Visit of the Government Delegate to the Frusemur Cooperative (04/12/2018)

This past Monday, taking advantage of his assistance to the Local Local Security Board, the Government Delegate in Murcia, Diego Conesa, visited the Frusemur cooperative located on the La Copa highway, next to the industrial estate of Bullas.

There, accompanied by the President of the Cooperative, Antonio Fernández, and a member of the same, Pedro Guerrero, in addition to the Mayor, María Dolores Muñoz, and the Councilor for Agriculture, Juan Valera, was touring the facilities where the almond is worked and the olive, now, in full performance when in season.

The cooperative that was created in 1994 currently has 1,800 members and with an area of ​​around 7,000 hectares, of which almost 5,000 hectares are in organic production and whose predominant varieties are those of late flowering such as Guara, Penta, Vairo , etc.

The President of the Cooperative assured that the commercialization of almond ranges between 4 and 5 million kilos, in spite of the fact that there are more and more, lamented, the farmers who decide to start their almonds because of the lack of rain in the area and the problems what this entails for its cultivation.

As for the olive sector, varieties such as picual, blanqueta, chamomile and arbequina predominate, "all harvested at their optimum moment of maturation, providing a fruit of excellent quality," said Antonio Fernández, who commented that the commercialization of the olive oscillates among the 3 and 4 million Kilos.

Both the almond and the olive are rainfed crops and, in this sense, the Delegate Diego Conesa said the importance of this type of crops which he said "are an environmental element of the first order in the Region of Murcia that have to have a future "showing their support to cooperatives such as Bullas, which are committed to achieving the maximum production in organic farming.

Conesa concluded by highlighting the work of the 1,800 "small entrepreneurs," he said, adding that "they are farmers who bring their almonds or their olives to this cooperative in the Northwest for a personal consumption and another for commercial, which is not your effort, but that we must put in value ".
