Start-up of the first municipal photovoltaic self-consumption project as a measure to fight against energy poverty (13/02/2018)

In March of last year, the residents of Bullas decided that of the 70 proposals presented, the most voted was a project presented by Francisco Espín, a neighbor of Bullas, to fight against energy poverty with the construction of a photovoltaic installation and the creation of a "Energy Bank" or "Solar Bank".

After obtaining the first authorizations, last December began the construction of the photovoltaic installation formed by a photovoltaic generator of 6,480 kW, assuming a reduction of 7,152 kWh of the 15,482 kWh currently consumed annually by the municipality's Social Services, which is approximately equivalent to electricity consumption of 2 families, approximately 2,000 €.

The equipment has been installed both on the roof and in the premises that Social Services currently uses to store the food distributed in the municipality to families in need.

Additionally, and in order to make the installation visible, in the offices themselves, a screen has been installed to check in real time the installation data, that is, how many kWh have been generated by the sun, how many kWh have been consumed, and consequently, the final savings.

The project has finally involved an investment of € 13,020, of which € 9,972 have been paid by the City Council, and the rest has been paid for by companies and technicians specializing in photovoltaic energy neighboring Bullas.

The promoter of this initiative Engineer Francisco Espin, tells us that "the purpose of this initiative has a double objective, on the one hand to demonstrate that the photovoltaic self-consumption is a reality, which is legal and profitable, and on the other hand contribute to propose solutions to fight against energy poverty ".

Adding that "this project is only a first step for the realization of other similar projects, since we already have another proposal underway with an additional investment of € 50,000 for the expansion of this project incorporating lithium batteries to accumulate unconsumed surplus , the installation of 9.72 kWp of Autoconsumo in the recreational tourist complex of La Rafa, and 4.68 kWp to supply the existing pumping of water recirculation in the Paseo de los Centenarios. "

Francisco Espín concludes that "perhaps in the not too distant future we will be able to take an important step towards the energy self-sufficiency of the municipal facilities, focusing our next objective, and with the support of the Rest of the citizens a 100% renewable town"

Start-up of the installation

The act of commissioning will be carried out in the same Social Services offices at number 30 of the Gran Vía de Bullas and will include interventions by the project's promoter Francisco Espín, who will explain the operation of the facility, the Mayor of Bullas, María Dolores Muñoz, and José Blanco, MEP, rapporteur for the new European Directive on Renewable Energies (EERR).

At the ceremony are invited among others, the mayors of the Northwest Region and Rio Mula, technicians and companies in the town as well as representatives of the electricity distribution company and the cooperative marketing Murcia 'La Solar'.

At the end of the event, both Blanco and the Mayor will move to Murcia to attend the closing day of the project INNPULSA 2017, meeting point of the sector of the EERR of the Region of Murcia, a project in which the City of Bullas has also participated .
