The Don Pepe Marsilla building welcomes these days an exhibition made up of large diptychs explaining the Life Program and, specifically, the Life Sarmiento project in which the Cooperativa Virgen del Rosario de Bullas participates as a partner.
The Life Sarmiento project, which began in September 2016, helps to mitigate climate change by incorporating new practices that reduce the emissions produced by the burning of pruning, while at the same time improving soil quality.
The proposed solution is based on the transformation of the remains of prunings into a substrate to be used as fertilizer with biopesticide characteristics and fertilizers through a composting process.
The area of ​​action is the production area grouped in the Cooperativa Virgen de El Rosario, under the distinctive Denomination of Protected Origin Bullas.
The management system to prevent the burning consists of: collective collection of pruning, chopping at collection points, transportation to a processing area, in this case, in the winery, development of a composting process, in which it is added water and beneficial microorganisms, incorporation of the compost produced in the vineyards and production of substrate for urban gardens and nurseries.
Another objective of the project is the replication and transfer of the management system proposed in other areas outside the cooperative.
Microgaia entities are also associated with the project, leader and technical manager of the implementation and monitoring of the new management system and replication strategy, and EuroVértice, responsible for communication activities and project monitoring, as well as support to the management of the project and evaluation of results.
The project is financed by the LIFE Program of the European Union, which contributes 60% of the expenses.
