About the Roman Villa of Los Cantos

The Roman Villa of Los Cantos has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) since 2015 given the importance of the enclave as one of the main rural settlements in Roman times in our Region.

It is an agricultural operation very characteristic of the colonization model of the territory that developed during the Roman period in rural areas.

It is articulated in several nuclei, among which stands out: the urban pars, where it would be located the domus, seasonal residence of the owner, the thermal complex and the pars frumentaria, or industrial sector, dedicated to the manufacture and storage of agricultural and livestock production .

The village had to have houses for slaves, or pars rustica, and probably a garden or hortus zone.

The chronological period of the site extends from the second century BC to the fifth century AD, which has caused an overlap and reuse of different structures.

It is remarkable the architectural set that presents a constructive unit better defined, and now put in value, and that can be dated around the 2nd century AD
