The Councilor for Works and Services of the City of Bullas, Juan Valera, recently attended the call of the Board of Directors of the Commonwealth of the Taibilla Channels (MCT), in the water treatment station (ETAP) of the Sierra de la Espada in Molina de Segura who was chaired by the President of the MCT, Francisca Baraza.
The members of the Council endorsed the management report, where they realized the most important aspects throughout the year in relation to the management and the economic situation of the Commonwealth, the water resources used, the consumption served and the forecast of closure of the budget year.
This call also informed that the consumption of desalinated water every time "is more than a reality" since the inhabitants of the Cieza area, the Guadalentín Valley (Totana, Alhama) and the municipalities of the Vega Baja of Alicante could have desalinated water contributions once the strategic projects presented are developed.
According to the data provided, 44% of those 196.6 cubic hectometers used in the 2018-2019 period came from the Tajo-Segura Transfer, while the Taibilla River contributed 24% and the MCT and Acuamed desalination plants provided a 31% of the water consumed, in addition to 1% obtained from extraordinary resources.
For the councilor Juan Valera, the commitment by the MCT to consider the effects of climate change, are contemplated in the energy renovation works in the elevation of Bullas II through the implementation of a photovoltaic generation system for supply.
"We must highlight the great work and the great effectiveness of the MCT to solve in a short space of time the great problems that originated in the episodes of the Dana where the population has not suffered just water cuts and is guaranteeing continuity and water supply quality ".
Compared to other municipalities, Bullas is among those that consume more water, although its consumption is gradually reduced.
"We should all make an effort to reduce water consumption and more in an area where we turn directly to the Taibilla canal, without contributions of desolate and transfer," says the mayor.
On the other hand, on the drought episode suffered in previous years, where no water was received from the transfer in six months, "it was possible to supply the entire population without suffering any water cut," concludes Valera, who says that Bullas has no debt some with the MCT.
