The Minister of Water, Agriculture and Environment, Adela Martinez-Cacho, said today at the presentation of the 'IX shows DOP Bullas' that "although the Protected Designation of Origin Bullas has increased the harvest of the 2015 campaign by 800,000 kilos grape, it is still below what would be a normal year as a result of the drought that has been suffering since 2014 ".
The 2015 campaign collected approximately 3,500,000 kilos of grapes produced by the wineries in the area.
In all, 11 wineries are registered in the Register of Protected Designation of Origin Bullas, totaling 1,810 hectares.
As for the grape varieties, Monastrell ink accounted for 72 percent of the total produced grapes.
The other red varieties grown in the area are Tempranillo, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Garnacha Tintorera, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
The percentage of grape varieties produced ink was 93 percent of the total.
As for the white varieties, wineries produced 175,000 kilos of grapes Macabeo, Malvasia and Airen varieties.
The DOP Bullas consists of land located in the municipalities of Bullas, Calasparra, Caravaca de Lacruz, Cehegín, Lorca, Moratalla, Mula, Pliego and Ricote.
The Minister participated this morning in the presentation of the exhibition, which will take place on 7 and 8 March, which was also attended by the mayors of Bullas and Moratalla, Maria Dolores Muñoz and Candida Marin, and the director of the Institute of Tourism in the Region of Murcia, Manuel Fernández-Delgado.
This exhibition is an event held annually in order to promote the wines under this quality.
During his speech, Fernandez-Delgado, stressed "the importance of wines as a factor in attracting tourists to the region" and that "wine tourism is considered as a strategic product for its ability to boost the local economy, reduce seasonality and to value the cultural, historical and natural heritage of the areas in which it develops. "
In this regard, he recalled the launch of a new 'Plan Promotion Wine Routes' which seeks to improve the competitiveness of the wine routes of the region throughout 2016.
Blind tasting

This event establishes three awards (gold, silver and bronze) for each of the categories of white, rosé, young red wines without wood, wood and young red wines with red wines aged in wood.
The event is recognized as Official Wine Competition in Spain.
