The Mayor, María Dolores Muñoz, together with the Councillor for Culture, Antonio José Espín and the Director of the Wine Museum, Salvador Martinez, held a meeting yesterday with the General Director of Heritage and Cultural Heritage, Maria Comas, to inquire about the finding of the three marble statues of Roman origin, of incalculable historical and sentimental value to Bullas and archaeological site belonging to the municipality of Los Cantos.

From City of Bullas urge Heritage and Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Region for the necessary efforts to return the sculptures as soon as possible Bullas are made from the General Directorate.

"You can not reach in magnitude around the site of the Villa Romana, without these pieces that are part of the archaeological site," said the mayor.

On the statue missing since the three sculptures are part of a sculptural group of four images that were found at the site in the early twentieth century (1905-1909), urges Muñoz keep looking given the great importance it has for Bullas .

This is the 'Child of the Grapes' image that the Consistory used for decades to link this population historically with the culture of wine.

The operation carried out by the Civil Guard, part of the Plan for the defense of Spanish Historical Heritage, still remains open, according to the Director-General expressed his commitment to cooperate at all times with the City of Bullas.

At present, technical Bullas City Council are preparing a report to record on the finding and linking the sculptures with the municipality of Bullas, discovered by the then parish priest of the town Juan Bautista Molina Nunez, who would be responsible for photographing and document them and send that information to the Real Academia de la Historia.

About the statues

The four statues are carved in white marble and statues-they have been identified as source and retaining the inlet and outlet that served to drive and bring forth water;

I used to think that would serve as ornament in the gardens of the Villa de Los Cantos.

For decades, 4 sculptures remained in Bullas until after the death of the priest, his family moved the sculptures outside the municipality and thus lost his trail until rehallazgo in recent police investigations.

The sculptures are dated around the second century AD and include ornamental motifs related to nature that convey serenity and happiness (eg carry between their hands geese and ducks, children who act as water sources, etc.);

all in line with the objective to decorate a villa and gardens that gave distinction and prestige to the owners of it.
