The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment has invested 4,528,717 euros in the modernization and improvement of the facilities of the waste water treatment plant (Edar) of Bullas, which has capacity to treat 4,000 cubic meters of water daily and will improve the Quality of more than 800,000 cubic meters of water per year that will be used for agricultural use.
The Minister of Water, Agriculture and the Environment, Adela Martínez-Cachá, who inaugurated the new facilities today, said that this action is part of the objectives of the II Plan of sanitation and purification of the Region of Murcia, "which contemplates the Improvement of sanitation and purification facilities and the quality of purified water for reuse in irrigation uses ".
The works include a prolonged aeration system with biological elimination of contaminants, new pre-treatment that replaces the existing one, new secondary decanter that complements the current ones and a tertiary treatment with disinfection by ultraviolet and hypochlorite.
The outlet of treated water complies with current regulations for the reuse of water in irrigation.
The annual volume for agricultural use amounts to about 810,000 cubic meters of water, which will go to the irrigation communities of Cañada de Los Olmos, La Osamenta and El Tovar.
Technical aspects
The new pretreatment has three channels of independent roughing, sieving fines and waste disposal.
In addition, it has also been located the degreaser-degreaser composed of two lines.
The biological treatment is composed of a biological reactor type carrousel with two lines for the biological elimination of phosphorus and nitrogen, besides oxidation of carbonaceous matter.
The reactor will have a total volume per line of 3,400 m3 with a height of five meters.
The tertiary treatment has a coagulation and pre-flocculation, lamellar decantation, continuous washing sand filters and ultraviolet disinfection in medium pressure, in addition to labyrinth chlorination, with advanced technology such as that used in other treatment plants of the Region.
With the installation carried out, the quality of the effluent treated in the treatment plant will be improved, which will increase the guarantee of evacuating purified water in better sanitary conditions and enable its reuse for more uses than the existing facility allowed.
