The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, delivered today to the Bullas Wine Museum of the Roman marble statues from the site of the Villa of Los Cantos that were recovered a year ago by the Civil Guard and have been temporarily transferred to the museum for exhibition to the public.
The mayor, María Dolores Muñoz, and the Government delegate in the Region, Antonio Sánchez-Solís, attended the act of this temporary deposit, which, Celdrán explained, "will become permanent if the judicial process still open ends with the delivery definitive to the Community of sculptures, which will be returned to the citizens of Bullas to be the first to enjoy their heritage and this sculptural ensemble that constitutes an excellent exponent of Roman art in the Region.
"The joint work between administrations is indispensable for the recovery of the heritage, through restorations, new discoveries, seizures and operations against traffic of works. We must also continue to collaborate for its conservation and valorization, which is enabling us to make our heritage and our culture one of the main tourist claims, "said the head of the Ministry.
Roman marble statues, which represent three children, were recovered in the operation 'Kairos' developed in September 2016. The fight against the plundering of the heritage has experienced a special boom in recent years, in particular thanks to the promulgation, in the year 2012, of the Plan for the Defense of the Spanish Historical Heritage.
In the Region, he recalled, "in recent years, control and monitoring have been increased, and numerous operations have been carried out that have allowed the recovery of thousands of objects of historical, archaeological, artistic and documentary value, as well as the dismantling of networks and the imposition of sanctions on expoladores and traffickers ".
The sculptures
After being subjected to a cleaning process, the sculptures were exhibited this year at the Archaeological Museum of Murcia and, from now on, will be exhibited at the Museum of Bullas, "which has made an adaptation and improvement of its facilities thanks to the subsidy granted by the regional government, within the heading allocated to the operation of the museums of the Regional System, "said Javier Celdrán.
The holder of Tourism and Culture also highlighted the work of protection by the Ministry with the declarations of Cultural Interest (BIC) and Well Cataloged, and recalled that "last November began the BIC statement of children's sculptures of Bullas, one more example of the commitment of the regional government with the patrimony and the culture ".
The three marble statues of Roman times, to which must add a fourth in unknown whereabouts, come from the town of Los Cantos de Bullas, archaeological site of particular relevance declared BIC.
They were found at the beginning of the 20th century, during excavation work, although it was unknown where they were.
The mythological pieces of Los Cantos, more than two thousand years old, are characterized as statues-source, since the animal of the autumnal kairos (the statue not yet found, the 'Child of the grapes') and the containers supported by the three other erotes are drilled to be connected to a pipe through which would flow the water that would supply one or several sources.
Wine tourism and sports tourism
Together with the cultural wealth of Bullas, Javier Celdran stressed "the momentum that are taking in this municipality actions to promote sports and gastronomic tourism, two of the lines of work to achieve the deseasonalization of tourism in the Region of Murcia."
"The importance of Bullas in wine tourism, one of the main points of the Gastronomic Tourism Plan of the Region of Murcia," recalled that "last year, more than 22,000 people visited the wineries of the locality, which meant a growth of 33.4 percent. "
Regarding sports tourism, Bullas has been one of the cities that has passed the test 'Ultra 90K Camino de la Cruz', one of the major sporting events of the year that had about 1,500 participants and contributed to generate significant benefits economic and social in the nine municipalities through which it took place.
Actions such as those named, added Celdrán, "are those that have contributed to the fact that, so far this year, the number of travelers in Bullas has grown by 35.7 per story, highlighting the increase in domestic tourists who opt for short duration throughout the year in rural settings. "
