The neighbors of Bullas will be able to contemplate from today, in the Museum of Wine, the three marble statues of Roman origin, with some 2,000 years old, of incalculable value and belonging to the Roman Site of 'The Cantos', that recently a year, under the operation 'Kairos', the Civil Guard recovered in two homes of Lorca and Cartagena.
The Mayor of Bullas, María Dolores Muñoz has been enthusiastic about the arrival of this sculptural group.
He thanked all the administrations and institutions, such as the Seprona Civil Guard agents, the Government Delegation and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Heritage, which have made it possible, temporarily, to be transferred to the Museum for your exposure to the public.
Antonio Sánchez-Solís, the Councilor for Tourism, Culture and the Environment, Javier Celdrán, and the Chief Colonel, were present at the reception of the Roman sculptures, accompanying the first Edil. V Area of ​​the Civil Guard, Jesús Arribas.
According to the Councilor Celdrán explained, "the temporary assignment of the sculptures will become permanent if the judicial process still open ends with the final delivery to the Community of the sculptures, which will be returned to the citizens of Bullas to be the first to enjoy of its patrimony and of this sculptural ensemble that constitutes an excellent exponent of the Roman art in the Region ".
For its part, the Government Delegate commented that these statues representing three children were recovered in the 'Kairos' operation carried out in September 2016. "The fight against the plundering of the heritage has experienced in recent years a special boom, in particularly thanks to the promulgation, in 2012, of the Plan for the Defense of Spanish Historical Heritage, "said Sánchez-Solís, who said that a fourth statue still remains missing, where the popular sculpture 'Niño Baco or Niño de las Uvas' which comes to show the wine relationship of Bullas since Roman times.
"The children", as the Mayor has called them, were found at the beginning of the 20th century, during excavation work.
The mythological pieces of Los Cantos, more than two thousand years old, are characterized as statues-source, since the animal of the autumnal kairos (the statue not yet found, the 'Child of the grapes') and the containers supported by the three other erotes are drilled to be connected to a pipe through which would flow the water that would supply one or several sources.
In the framework of the Wine Festivals, which are held in the town from 15 to 24 September, these sculptures can be visited.
On the one hand, on Saturday 23 September in the activity called 'Bullas Romana y Vino';
which includes visits to the archaeological site of 'Los Cantos' by specialist archaeologists and the Museum of Wine to see closely the three Roman sculptures, as well as a wine tasting of the Bullas DOP.
And on the other, on October 13 and 14 will be held open days to the Wine Museum where the main attraction for the visitor will be to know these figures of great importance for the heritage of Bullas.
