Ecovidrio, the non-profit organization in charge of the management of the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain, in collaboration with the City Councils of Bullas, Cieza and Yecla, today delivered the solidarity check to Save the Children, for having overcome the challenge proposed in the campaign launched during Christmas in these three populations.
The initiative invited all residents of these three municipalities to recycle the largest amount of glass packaging waste to overcome the proposed challenge.
The challenge was to recycle in the containers decorated with the campaign image in the 3 municipalities, 8 tons of glass.
Finally, 8.3 tons of glass have been recycled, so Ecovidrio has given Save the Children a donation of € 1,500, which will go to lots of school material to boost education through its project against child poverty in Spain.
During the days that the campaign lasted, along with these containers, an educator explained the solidarity campaign to all the pedestrians and gave them an adornment for the Christmas tree in which they invited to recycle glass during these dates so indicated.
Environmental benefits of glass recycling
The glass that is deposited in the containers is 100% recycled and used for the manufacture of new containers, indefinitely and without losing the original properties.
Recycling glass prevents the growth of landfills.
Recycling glass is a key element in the fight against climate change.
By using recycled glass calcín in the manufacture of new containers avoids the extraction of raw materials from nature, avoiding the erosion of soils and deforestation of our environment.
In addition, the emission of CO2 is minimized in the manufacturing process and energy is saved.
