The general director of the Tourism Institute highlights the "great potential of Bullas as a wine tourism destination"
The general director of Innovation, Productions and Agrifood Markets, Fulgencio Pérez, and the general director of the Tourism Institute, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, today presented the XI Sample of the Denomination of Origin of Bullas wines, in which the importance was highlighted of the Regulatory Councils as a reference from the viticultural, tourist, social and cultural point of view and the support of the regional government with specific aid.
Fulgencio Perez highlighted today the support of the Community to the diffusion of the wines of the Denomination of Origin of Bullas "through a line of specific aids for the Regulatory Councils, thanks to which these and other promotional activities can be subsidized to give to know the consumers the richness and variety of Murcian wines ".
Also in the sample highlighted the work done to improve the wines of Bullas, which, in a few years "have had a spectacular growth, for its high quality and for its careful cultivation and processing processes, and also because they have known to promote and position in the markets, "said the general director of Innovation, Productions and Agrifood Markets.
The geographical area of ​​the Denomination of Origin Bullas includes the municipalities of Bullas, Cehegín, Mula and Ricote, and, in part, the municipalities of Calasparra, Caravaca de la Cruz, Lorca, Moratalla and Pliego, with an area registered of 1,811 hectares , a production of 17,630 hectoliters of wine and 11 bottling wineries.
"The characteristics of the wines that have been submitted to the contest in this edition are endorsed by a team of experts and renowned tasting professionals with many years of experience from different sectors," added Fulgencio Perez.
The United States, China, Germany and the United Kingdom are the main countries to which the wines produced in this area are exported, with a marketing of about 2,400 hectoliters, which represents approximately 14 percent of the total sales.
Destination of wine tourism
On the other hand, the general director of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, showed in the meeting "the great potential of Bullas as a wine tourism destination", not only for its wines of the highest quality, but for its cellars, oil mills and specialized establishments, since it has an important patrimonial wealth, landscape and an offer of "exceptionally varied" experiences.
In this regard, he recalled, the Region is the only uniprovincial community with three wine routes certified by ACEVIN: Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas.
For the latter, 21,612 visitors passed during 2017, a volume that the Tourism Institute intends to increase this year by five percent.
Also, Fernández-Delgado recalled that "the promotion of wines with Denomination of Origin has become one of the priorities within the Plan of Promotion of Gastronomic Tourism of the Region of Murcia 2017-2020, whose main objective is to identify the Region as a preferred destination to enjoy a Mediterranean and healthy gastronomy and quality wines ".
This line of work seeks to raise awareness among the local population of the regional gastronomic wealth, promoting the consumption of local products, as well as tourist and catering entrepreneurs in order to boost the presence of these products in the offer of their establishments.
