The Councillor for Safety, Wonders Espin, reported that the local police Bullas has joined the new campaign that promotes DGT from 3 to June 9 on surveillance that aims to control distractions while driving in the roads.
In 2011, the distraction appears as a contributing factor in 39% of accidents with victims, especially for the misuse of mobile phones, browsers and other devices that have been added to the traditional motifs of distraction, such as reading a newspaper or a map while driving, try to eject a drive bug or smoking at the wheel.
In interurban roads distraction comes as such a factor in 46% of cases, and on urban roads by 34%.
For example, mobile phone use quadruples the risk of an accident equating to do so under the influence of alcohol.
The main reason for this campaign is to raise public awareness of the importance of responsible driving.
Although, too, is addressed to other groups, such as pedestrians where these reckless behaviors frequently observed, especially in the urban environment.
