The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, opened last night VII Bullas Wine Show, which will select the best examples today of the new wines made in the last campaign of the eleven participating wineries attached to the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Bullas .
Choosing the best wines will be held through a blind tasting in which specialists participate in wine tasters, led by Adrian Martinez, director of the Instituto Murciano Agrifood Research and Development (Imide).
The owner of Agriculture and Water said the export nature of this Designation of Origin, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, an increase of 17 percent in exports.
The Minister of Agriculture, who was accompanied by the Mayor of Bullas, Pedro Chico and the chairman of the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin of Bullas, Francisco Carreño stressed that wines Bullas "reach 35 countries on five continents" .
Cerda said that "the drop in the consumption of wine remains one of the problems of the wine sector," even though the domestic industry "has allowed, for the first time in Spain, the first position as a growing area, ahead of France and Italy. "
The Denomination of Origin Bullas covers nine municipalities in the region, with a recorded 2,200 hectares, in which nine different grape varieties, among which is the Monastrell grown.
The Denomination of Origin has 600 growers and 11 wineries bottling.
40 percent of wine production goes to foreign markets, mainly to markets in the United States, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, UK, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, Norway, China and Japan.
